Who will be your BrainSync Therapist?

Becky is a wife and mother of two wonderful teenage children and one adorable cockapoo. She is passionate about seeing children thrive and achieve optimal brain development. She has spent much of her adult life focused towards this cause. Becky graduated from the University of Western Ontario in Occupational Therapy and has practiced for 10 years (in Canada and New Zealand). While in New Zealand, she designed and delivered full day workshops across the country and into Australia educating parents, caregivers, teachers and other therapists on how to support children with sensory processing issues. She retired from OT to raise her own children and pursue a business in nutrition. During that time, she added optimizing child development through nutrition to her knowledge base. She delivered educational sessions on how to support prevention of developmental issues through sensory, motor, and nutritional means to new parents. She has been researching, and diving into sensory motor approaches, such as reflex integration, ocular motor skills training, rhythmical passive movements, EFT tapping, brain hemispheric balance, and much more. Believing that the brain is neuro-plastic she provides various movement patterns and activities to address sensory processing issues, fine and gross motor skills, balance and coordination, reflex integration, self regulation and more. She has been very successful helping children and adults make huge strides in their attention and focus, emotional regulation, executive functioning eating and sleep issues, and sensory defensiveness!Becky is a CERTIFIED INTERACTIVE METRONOME Service Provider. After researching the program and seeing how much Interactive Metronome (IM) aligns with her vision of helping children thrive in their development, she knew she had to offer this program to her community. The evidence is overwhelming in the areas of attention, focus, motor skills, sensory skills, cognition, and more.Interactive Metronome is utilized in over 30,000 prestigious hospitals, clinics, universities, and sports team such as Notre Dame, the Miami Dolphins among others. When Becky is not working with kiddos, she loves going for walks, loves nature, the beach, sunsets, camping, cottaging, board and party games, spike ball, pickle ball, and having meaningful conversations with friends! Becky has changed my son's life. We started seeing Becky when my son turned 2. He barely was talking, had challenges with sensory (couldn’t be wet/dirty, wouldn’t chew food properly, balance issues) and was having extreme meltdowns daily. After 3 months of weekly visits, my heart explodes with happiness to say he is a different child. He climbs at the playground, gets on a balance bike, eats everything, laughs, talks and just started swimming. I tell everyone about Becky! She cares so much about children and spends so much time preparing for each lesson to make sure it is customized. Providing my son with the extra support from Becky has truly changed his life! Feel so lucky we found her!
~BrittanySince starting to see Becky we have made massive strides! My son who is almost 4 was an extremely picky eater, he was mostly eating yogurt or crackers all day and even foods like chicken fingers or pasta like he use to eat were getting harder and harder to get in, plus he would only eat while watching tv and wouldn’t sit at the table. I felt overwhelmed because I didn’t know what to do and nothing we were doing was working. He was very sensitive, easily irritable, and reactive when things weren’t exactly how he wanted it. Now, we’ve been screen free for just under 2 months, and he is eating at the table again! He is starting to eat more foods and mealtimes have felt soo much easier and less stressful. His overall mood is so much better and his tantrums are drastically reduced and he is so much easier to reason with. His focus and attention span has improved and we are able to sit and do a learning journal every day which before would have been impossible! He’s engaging more in things like soccer and in general his listening has improved. He is overall more easy going, and is sharing and more helpful with his little brother. Another thing I’ve recently noticed is he use to always wake up crying and cranky ever since he was a baby, and lately he’s been waking up with no tears and just happily saying good morning! I can’t say enough amazing things about Becky! She is so knowledgeable, so patient and warm, she is fun and playful with my son and has such great ideas of ways to incorporate the exercises into every day play! She has approached my son and our situation in a way that no one ever has, looking through a completely different lens. She has already changed our lives and given me so much hope and relief. I can’t wait to see where we will end up as we continue on with her!
~A young loving Mom :)We came to Becky because my daughter Eva was a wiggle worm. The only time she sat still was when she was asleep. After our first appointment I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Becky was able to quickly tell Eva had retained primitive reflexes. Not only leading to the fidgeting, but other day to day struggles she was experiencing.
In just over a month of working with Becky we cannot believe the change in Eva. Her body awareness has improved, drastic change in her fidgeting, and she is beginning to register sensations she hadn’t previously. All these small things are such big wins for us!
Becky is so informative, patient, and supportive during the sessions. Eva loves going, and always asks when she gets to
go back. We can’t wait to keep working with Becky and see where it takes Eva!
~JessicaBrainSync and Interactive Metronome is not just for the kiddos! It's for parents too! Long post alert but a very worthwhile read - This is Karen - a brave, loving, smart Mom doing her best for her and her family! Love it!
Hello! My name is Karen. I am a mother of two kiddos - my daughter is 6 and my son is 4. My son is a very high spirited little guy with very big emotions which include screaming tantrums and meltdowns and other very challenging behavior. I have self-diagnosed with ADHD as it was not looked at as a child, but I’m sure I have lived with it most of my life. To say the least I have found not only daily life but supporting my son to be exceedingly overwhelming given my issues in the areas of anxiety, difficulty prioritizing tasks, challenges with task initiation, easily distracted, poor sleep habits, difficulty concentrating, and other executive functions (organization, memory). Becky suggested the Interactive Metronome (IM) program for twelve sessions to see if it would improve some of my issues and provide me with more agency to support my own life as well as the needs of my son, reduce the overwhelm, and clear some of the anxiety and improve executive functioning.
After the half-way mark through our sessions I noticed that I ACTUALLY cleaned out the closets and started organizing things that I haven’t been able to initiate in the past. I started reading a book that has been sitting there waiting for me to start - the ability to prioritize and initiate started to improve. Shortly after this time, ‘all hell broke loose’ with transition to school issues with my son and it was a very intense situation I had to deal with. I kept up my IM sessions and completed my 12 sessions.
I can’t believe how well I am coping with the stressful demands in my life right now! In the past I would have been so overwhelmed that I would have experienced extreme anxiety, shut down, and would have been unsure as to what to do etc. Instead I am aware that the situation is tough but I’m feeling calmer and less anxiety overall. I have improved resiliency to drama and chaos. My sleep has improved - I have always been a night owl and a poor sleeper, but recently I am going to bed earlier, sticking to a more consistent bedtime - I used to lose track of time, staying up until 2 am and then being exhausted the next day. I am not doing that anymore. I am on top of the kid-mess and toys on a more regular basis and even found myself cleaning up in the morning before I headed out to an appointment! I am feeling solution-oriented to the issues at hand and am making prioritized steps in dealing with them which has included a phone call to set up programming for my son. This phone call is a big deal!!... calls like that would normally create so much anxiety I considered phone calls a phobia of mine and would make my husband call.
Recently, my son was having a very intense loud tantrum - during this time I had the agency to gather the required items to pack our backpack to take him on a much needed nature walk. I surprised myself that I was able to focus, initiate and provide what was needed while trying to soothe him so we could get out the door. In the past I would have not been able to deal with it and would have simply stayed home. The nature walk worked wonders for both of us and he had a great rest of the day.
In the past I have needed the strategy of setting my phone alarm to remind me to get ready to pick the kids up from the bus or various other activities as losing track of time (time management and awareness) has been an issue for me. I am finding now that my time management and awareness has improved and I am using this strategy much less frequently as I simply don’t need it!
I am so pleased to have gone through IM program, as it not only supports me and my own journey in life but I know it will have a positive effect for my family and those around me.
~Karen
